As part of the work of Iomairt Ghàidhlig Iar Thuath Leòdhais and to raise funds for Comunn Eachdraidh Nis, the two groups worked together to organise a special evening in the community.
To provide an excellent opportunity for people to use their Gaelic and to have a little fun, an evening of curry, a quiz and a ceilidh was organised at Comunn Eachdraidh Nis, Cross. The evening began with a feast of Indian food and after everybody’s appetites were satisfied the quiz began! A strongly fought battle commenced with 7 teams taking part. As well as the Iomairt and the Comunn Eachdraidh, assistance was also given from ‘Include Us’ and their officer for Ness and the Westside, Donald Macsween keeping all the teams on their toes performing the role of MC for the competition. The competition was very close, but the team who came out on top were ‘Faidhir Powerful’ who received a prize of £40 – which they very generously gifted to the Comunn Eachdraidh! To end the evening, Ness Melodean Band performed in fine tune as usual!
The event was highly successful with an excellent evening had by all who attended. The event was also a success with the Gaelic element as both learners and fluent speakers of all ages using and developing their fluency of Gaelic in a friendly, informal environment. With the success of this event, the two groups plan to continue to work together to provide more opportunities like this which will help with the work of the groups and will promote Gaelic in the area.
