The Westside Sradagan group, along with Iomairt Ghàidhlig Iar Thuath Leòdhais have been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet with local athlete Jenny Mactaggart, an Olympic torch bearer in Stornoway this year. The young people were given a chance to hold the Olympic torch and all the sponsored gifts. They were told how much effort and hard work is required to be successful in sport. The Sradagan were then put through their paces in an assault course for a little exercise and fun!
They thoroughly enjoyed the session and will always remember getting to hold the torch! Sradagan provides an opportunity for children to develop their Gaelic language skills in a social setting. This is particularly important for children whose only other exposure to Gaelic is in School. Westside Sradagan meet every Monday in Shawbost school from 6-7.30, and a warm welcome will be given to any new Sradagan members who wish to come along.
