Am bliadhna chuir 49 oileanach a-staigh airson àite air an sgeama agus as dèidh beagan sgrùdaidh chaidh 44 dhiubh am meas mar oileanaich a bha a’ coilionadh nan riaghailtean. Shoirbhich le 28 greis gnìomhachais fhaighinn le caochladh bhuidhnean air feadh Alba agus bidh iad sin a’ cosnadh co-dhiù £180 san t-seachdain airson deich seachdainean aig a’ char as lugha.

Cleachd i

Chaidh Sgeama Greis Gnìomhachais Chomunn na Gàidhlig a leudachadh am bliadhna agus tha e a-nis ag obair aig dà ìre eadar-dhealaichte. Am bliadhna, airson a' chiad uair, chaidh sgeama cosnaidh ùr air a bheil ‘Cleachd i' a thabhann dha oileanaich. Tha an sgeama seo a' toirt barrachd roghainn dha oileanaich a thaobh an seòrsa obrach a tha iad airson a dhèanamh.

Dh’iarr CnaG air oileanaich pròiseact shònraichte a dhealbh a thogadh inbhe na Gàidhlig anns an sgìre aca fhèin. Rinn CnaG sgrùdadh air na pròiseactan a bh’air an tairgse agus chaidh aontachadh gun deigheadh ceithir dhiubh air adhart. Bidh na h-oileanaich a' cur seachad mìosan an t-samhraidh ag ullachadh, a’ ruith agus a’ toirt nam pròiseactan gu ceann.

Seach gu bheil barrachd uallaich air oileanaich Chleachd i, tha an ìre pàighidh nas àirde na an Sgeama Greis Gnìomhachais àbhaisteach is iad a' cosnadh £210 san t-seachdain. Tha CnaG a’ toirt stiùireadh is taic dha gach neach len cuid phròiseactan thairis air mìosan an t-samhraidh agus tha gach oileanach ag obair gu dlùth ri sgiobannan sgìreil na buidhne.

Fhuair na pròiseactan a leanas aonta bho Chomunn na Gàidhlig;

  • ‘An Dìleab’, Fìona Nic an Aba, Port Rìgh, An t-Eilean Sgitheanach
    A’ cruinneachadh sgeulachdan, òrain is bàrdachd agus a’ ruith club-òigridh samhraidh airson clann an eilein fhad ’s a tha iad air saor-làithean.
  • ‘Gàidhlig sa Chomraich’, Ellie Pheutan, A’ Chomraich, Siorrachd Rois
    A’ dèanamh agallamhan le daoine às a’ Chomraich gus fiosrachadh fhaighinn air iomadh cuspair eadar-dhealaichte co-cheangailte ris an sgìre agus ga chuir ri chèile ann an cruth leabhar no CD.
  • ‘Gàidhlig ann an Colbhasa’, Màiri NicGille-Mhìcheil, Eilean Cholbhasa
    Rannsachadh air suidheachadh na Gàidhlig ann an Colbhasa. A’ cruinneachadh beul-aithris, eachdraidh ionadail is bàrdachd air clàr. Ag obair còmhla ri daoine anns an sgoil agus anns a’ choimhearsnachd gus a’ Ghàidhlig a neartachadh san eilean.
  • ‘Gàidhlig ann an Dùn Èideann’, Chrisma Bould, Dùn Èideann
    A’ ruith chlasaichean Gàidhlig dha daoine aig an robh beagan Gàidhlig nuair a bha iad òg agus a tha a-nis air a dhol lapach.

Plana Cànan nan Eilean Siar

Chaidh triùir oileanach fhastadh bho chionn ghoirid, le taic bho Chomunn na Gàidhlig, gus Plana Cànan nan Eilean Siar a thoirt air adhart chun an ath ìre. Tha iad gu bhith a’ beachdachadh air mar a ghabhas am Plana Cànan a chur an gnìomh anns na coimhearsnachdan aca fhèin le bhith a’ dealbh phlanaichean cànan coimhearsnachd. Tha an triùir a’ tighinn bho dhiofar choimhearsnachdan air feadh nan Eilean Siar agus mar sin stèidhichidh na planaichean eadar-dhealaichte aca a’ mhòr chuid de na cnàmhan ris an cuir sgioba a’ Plana feòil san t-àm ri teachd.

Tha na h-oileanaich a leanas a’ dealbh phlana cànan coimhearsnachd;

  • Diane Mhoireasdan, Plana Cànan Steòrnabhaigh
  • Liondsaidh NicIomhair, Plana Cànan nan Loch
  • Claire NicNèill, Plana Cànan Eilean Bharraigh

Gàidhlig air a’ Bhàta

A’ leantainn air cho soirbheachail ’sa bha am pròiseact ‘Gàidhlig air a’ Bhàta’ an uiridh, tha CnaG ga ruith am bliadhna a-rithist. Tha CnaG is Caledonian Mac a’ Bhriuthainn air a thighinn còmhla gus fiosrachadh air cànan is cultar nan eilean a thoirt seachad dha luchd-siubhail tro sheiseanan fiosrachaidh air aisigean Chalmac. Thèid fiosrachadh air tachartasan chultarail agus leasan Gàidhlig a thoirt seachad mar phàirt den t-seisean agus thathas an dòchas gun toir seo air luchd-turais abairtean Gàidhlig fheuchainn fhad ’s a tha iad anns na h-eileanan.

A’ toirt seachad nan seiseanan fiosrachaidh bidh;

Evelyn Coull - Steòrnabhagh – Ulapul
Rona Wilkie - An t-Òban – Tiriodh – Bagh a’ Chaisteil

Tha sinn fhathast a' lorg cuideigin airson Uig / Tairbeart / Loch na Madadh.

Sgeama Luchd-ceumnachaidh

Cothroman obrach do luchd-ceumnachaidh Gàidhlig

"B'e cothrom math a bh' anns an turas gus sealladh fhaighinn air mar a tha buidhnean eile a' feuchainn ri mion-chànan a leasachadh".

"Feumadh mi ràdh gur e turas air leth math a bh'ann agus gu deimhinn dh'ionnsaich sinn mòran fhad 's a bha sinn thall ann am Beul-Feirste".

"Fhuair mise tòrr às an turas a dh'Èirinn agus tha mi a' smaoineachadh gur e rud math a th'ann agus gum bu choir dha a bhith na phàirt den sgeama anns na bliadhnaichean ri teachd".

Seo beachdan bhon triùir dhaoine òga a chaidh a-null gu Beul-Feirste air a' mhìos a chaidh mar phàirt de Sgeama Luchd-ceumnachaidh Chomunn na Gàidhlig agus tha CnaG air ainmeachadh gu bheil iad a-nis a’ gabhail iarrtasan airson Sgeama Luchd-ceumnachaidh na bliadhna seo. Tha an sgeama seo air soirbheachadh gu mòr thar an dà bhliadhna a thathas air a bhith ga ruith.

Tron sgeama gheibh daoine le Gàidhlig a th’air ùr-cheumnachadh an cothrom a dhol a dh’obair le buidheann a tha a’ cleachdadh na Gàidhlig gu làitheil. Gheibh gach tagraiche soirbheachail cùmhnant bliadhna le buidheann agus £15,000 mar thuarastal aig a’ char as ìsle.

Tha Marina NicLeòid a fhuair obair leis a’ Chomunn Ghaidhealach tron sgeama ga mholadh gu mòr. Thuirt i “Fhuair mise buannachd mhòr às an sgeama seo agus tha iomadh cothrom na luib. ’S ann le taic bhon sgeama a chaidh an dreuchd agam a stèidheachadh agus tha mi a-nis air a bhith ag obair aig a’ Chomunn airson còrr is dà bhliadhna.”

Tha caochladh bhuidhnean air pàirt a ghabhail anns an sgeama gu seo agus chaidh aig CnaG air 12 dreuchd ùr a chruthachadh bho 2004.

Thuirt Steven Greumach bho Chomunn na Gàidhlig “’S e cothrom math dha rìribh a tha seo airson daoine le Gàidhlig a th’air ceumnachadh bho chionn ghoirid. Tha an sgeama seo a’ toirt cothrom dha daoine cas fhaighinn a-steach dha saoghal na h-obrach gus am faigh iad air an cuid sgilean is eòlais sònraichte a chur gu feum.

Tha CnaG ag amas gus dreuchdan gu tur ùra a chruthachadh ann an saoghal na Gàidhlig tron sgeama seo is mar sin tha e a’ cur gu mòr ri leasachadh na Gàidhlig anns an fharsaingeachd. Air sgàth ’s gu bheil dàrna leth gach tuarastal air a phàigheadh le CnaG, tha na buidhnean fhèin a’ faighinn cheart uiread de bhuannachd às ’sa tha an luchd-ceumnachaidh.

Chaidh againn air caochladh dhreuchd ùr a chruthachadh tron sgeama seo bho chaidh a stèidheachadh agus tha sinn air leth toilichte gun urrainn dhuinn a ruith am bliadhna a-rithist.”

Ma tha ùidh agaibh anns an sgeama seo, gheibh sibh tuilleadh fiosrachaidh agus Foirm Iarrtais an seo.

Press Release about 2006 Summer Projects

22nd June 2006

Work Experience Scheme

From 2002 Comunn na Gàidhlig has provided work experience placements to Gaelic speaking students through their Work Experience Scheme. This has given them employment through the Summer months.

This year 49 applicants applied for the scheme and after scrutinising the applications 44 were deemed to be within the rules. 28 of them were successful in obtaining placements with a wide selection of groups all over Scotland and they will be earning at least £180 per week.

The following groups are taking part in the Work Experience Scheme this year;

The Western Isles

An Comunn Gàidhealach, BBC Gaelic department (2 students), Ceòlas, Comunn Eachdraidh Cheann an Loch, North Lochs Historical Society, Harris Historical Society, Ness Historical Society, Iomairt Nis, Mactv, Museum nan Eilean, Dùn Èistean Archaeology Project, The Gaelic Arts Agency, Urras Cheann a Tuath Na Hearadh and Urras Leabhraichean nan Eilean.

Inverness

Glasgow

An Lòchran, BBC Gaelic Department, Comunn na Gàidhlig

Isle of Skye

Sabhal Mòr Ostaig (5 Students)

Islay

Ionad Chalum Chille Ìle (2 students)

As well as the 28 that obtained a place on the scheme, 10 of the applications secured work outwith the scheme with Gaelic organisations such as the BBC, CnaG, Mactv and the Western Isles Language Plan as their applications made these organisations aware of their wish to secure Gaelic work through the Summer.

Cleachd i

Comunn na Gàidhlig's Work Experience Scheme was expanded this year and is now operating at 2 distinct levels. For the first time a new employement scheme called 'Cleachd i' was made available to students. This scheme gives the students greater scope on the nature of work that they wish to carry out.

CnaG asked students to prepare a project outline for a project that would raise the profile of Gaelic in their area. CnaG evaluated the proposed projects and it was agreed that 4 of them would be going ahead. The students will spend the Summer months preparing, executing and concluding their projects.

Beacause there is a higher level of responsibility on students on the Cleachd i scheme the level of remuneration is higher than the normal work experience students receive, at a level of £210 per week. CnaG provides support and guidance to each individual with their projects over the Summer months and the students are working closely with the organisations' area teams.

The following projects were approved by Comunn na Gàidhlig;

  • ‘An Dìleab’, Fìona McNab, Portree, Isle of Skye
    Gathering stories, songs & poetry and running a youth club for the Island's children while they are on holiday.
  • ‘Gaelic in Applecross’, Ellie Beaton, Applecross, Ross-shire
    Conducting interviews with Applecross residents to obtain information on a wide range of information relating to the area. It will be compiled in book or CD format.
  • ‘Gaelic in Colonsay’, Mairi MacNicol, Isle of Colonsay.
    Researching the state of Gaelic in Colonsay. Collecting poetry, local history and stories in a written format. Co-ordinating with school staff and the community to strengthen Gaelic on the Island.
  • ‘Gaelic in Edinburgh’, Crisma Bold, Edinburgh
    Running Gaelic classes for those that had Gaelic when they were young but are no longer fluent.

Western Isles Language Plan

Three students were hired recently with support from Comunn na Gàidhlig to bring the Western Isles Language Plan to its next phase. They will be considering how the language plan will be implemented in their own communities through the development of community language plans. The three are from different communities throughout the Western Isles and their plans will establish the groundwork on which the Plan's time can build on in the future.

The students below are developing community language plans;

  • Diane Morrison, Stornoway Language Plan
  • Lindsay MacIver, Lochs Language Plan
  • Claire McNeill, Barra Language Plan

Gaelic on Board

Following on from last years very successful ‘ Gaelic on Board’ project CnaG is running it again this year. CnaG and Caledonian MacBrayne have joined forces to provide information on the language and culture of the islands to travellers via information sessions on CalMac's ferries. Information on cultural events and Gaelic lessons will form a part of these sessions and it is hoped that this will encourage tourists to try out some Gaelic expressions while they are in the islands.

The following people will be providing the information;

Evelyn Coull - Storonoway - Ullapool
Rona Wilkie - Oban – Tiree – Castlebay

We are still seeking someone for the Uig – Tarbert – Loch Maddy run.

Graduate Placement Scheme

Employment opportunities for Gaelic graduates

"It was an excellent opportunity to see how other groups are involved in minority language development".

"I have to say it was a fantastic trip and we certainly learned allot while we were over on Belfast."

"I got allot out of the tour to Ireland and I think that its a good idea that should be a part of the scheme in the years ahead".

Those are the thoughts of three young people who went over to Belfast last month as part of the Comunn na Gàidhlig Graduate Placement Scheme. CnaG is now accepting applications for this years intake to the scheme. The scheme has been very successful over the past two years it has been running.

Through the scheme Gaelic speakers who have recently graduated the opportunity to take up work within an organisation that uses Gaelic on a daily basis. Each successful applicant will get a one year contract with the organisation and a salary of at least £15,000.

Marina MacLeod who secured work with An Comunn Gàidhealach through the scheme highly recommends it. She said "I benefited hugely from the scheme and there are many opportunities within it. My position at An Comunn was established through the scheme and I have now been working there for over two years."

A variety of groups have taken part in the scheme up till now and CnaG has secured 12 placements on the scheme from 2004.

Steven Graham from Comunn na Gàidhlig said "Its a really good opportunity for new graduates that have Gaelic. The scheme gives them the chance to get a foot in the door of the working world and put their skills and expertise to good use.

CnaG aims to create entirely new Gaelic related posts in the via the scheme so it has been very beneficial to Gaelic development generally. Due to half the salary being paid by CnaG the group themselves receives the same level of benefit as the graduate.

We have created a wide range of new posts through this scheme since it was established and we are delighted to be able to run it again this year."

If you are interested in the scheme there are more details and an application form (Gaelic only) here.
