Gàidhlig air a’ Bhàta

11mh Iuchar 2006

A’ leantainn air cho soirbheachail ’sa bha a’ phròiseact ‘Gàidhlig air a’ Bhàta’ an-uiridh, tha Comunn na Gàidhlig ga ruith am bliadhna a-rithist. Tron phròiseact seo, bheir CnaG, ann an co-bhonn le Caledonian Mac a’ Bhruthainn, fiosrachadh air a’ Ghàidhlig is air a’ chultar a tha a’ tighinn na cois dha luchd-siubhail air bàtaichean-aisig ChalMac. Thathas an dòchas a’ phròiseact inntinneach seo a ruith air na trì bàtaichean MVs ‘EileanLeòdhais’, ‘Innse Gall’ agus ‘Fear-cinnidh’.

Thuirt Dòmhnall Màrtainn, Ceannard Chomunn na Gàidhlig, “Tha CnaG air leth toilichte gun urrainn dhuinn a’ phròiseact seo a chur air adhart am bliadhna a-rithist. Bha na seiseanan fiosrachaidh air an deagh fhrithealadh an-uiridh le daoine bho air feadh an t-saoghail agus tha sinn cinnteach gun soirbhich leotha am bliadhna cuideachd.

Thoisich sinn air an t-seachdain seo agus leanar thairis air mìosan an t-samhraidh. Tha sinn cuideachd an dòchas gum brosnaich iad daoine gus oidhirp a dhèanamh air a’ chànan ionnsachadh.”

Bheir na seiseanan cothrom dhan luchd-èisteachd fiosrachadh fhaighinn air mar a bha an cànan anns na linntean a chaidh seachad agus an suidheachadh anns a bheil i an-diugh. A bharrachd air seo gheibh iad an cothrom beagan Gàidhlig ionnsachadh agus gheibh iad fiosrachadh air na tachartasan chultarail a tha gu bhith a’ gabhail àite anns na h-eileanan tron t-samhradh. Thèid gach seisean a thoirt gu ceann le seinn no ceòl Gàidhlig bhon neach a tha a’ toirt seachad an fhiosrachaidh agus gheibh daoine cothrom ceistean sam bith a th’aca mun Ghàidhlig a chur air an neach.

Thuirt Ùisdean MacIllinnein, fear-labhairt ChalMac, “Tha sinne air leth toilichte gun tèid againn air a’ chothrom a thoirt dha Comunn na Gàidhlig an sgeama seo a chur air adhart a-rithist. Shoirbhich le na seiseanan gu mòr an uiridh agus tha mi làn-chinnteach gun d’fhuair an luchd-siubhail a bha an làthair buannachd mhòr asta. Tha pròiseact mar seo a’ cur ris an t-seirbheis a tha sinn a’ toirt seachad dhan luchd-siubhail againn gu mòr agus tha sinn an dòchas gun urrainn dhuinn a leudachadh san àm ri teachd.”

Aig an ìre seo tha CnaG fhathast a’ lorg neach a bheir seachad na seiseanan fiosrachaidh air a’ bhàta ‘Hebrides’. Gheibh an tagraiche soirbheachail stiùireadh leis gach nì. Tha na h-uairean obrach gu mòr an urra ris an neach fhèin is mar sin ’s e cothrom air leth math a th’ann dha oileanaich airgead a chosnadh thar mìosan an t-samhraidh.

Gaelic on Board

11th July 2006

Following on from last year’s success, Comunn na Gàidhlig have decided to run their ‘Gàidhlig air a’ Bhàta’ project once again. In partnership with Caledonian MacBrayne, Comunn na Gàidhlig will, through this project, provide CalMac ferry passengers with information on the Gaelic language and culture. This innovative project is taking place on the MVs ‘Isle of Lewis’, ‘Clansman’ and ‘ Hebrides’.

Donald Martin, Chief Executive of Comunn na Gàidhlig, said “CnaG are delighted to be able to run this project again this year. Last year’s information sessions were well attended by people from a variety of different countries throughout the world and we are confident that this year’s sessions will likewise be successful. These sessions started this week and will be available throughout the summer months. The aim of each session is to provide those in attendance with a Gaelic taster and prepare them in advance for what they will see and hear while they are in the Islands. We also hope that they will encourage people to take up an interest in the language and ultimately learn it.”

The sessions will give those in attendance the opportunity to discover more about the language in bygone centuries and also its current state. As well as this, they will get the opportunity to learn some basic Gaelic and will be given information on the cultural events taking place throughout the islands this summer. Each session will conclude with some Gaelic song or music provided by the Information Officer coupled with the opportunity to ask questions on any aspect of the Gaelic language.

Hugh Dan MacLennan, CalMac’s Head of Communication and Customer Care, said “We are pleased to once again be able to provide Comunn na Gàidhlig with the opportunity to proceed with this scheme. Last year’s sessions were a great success and I’m positive that the passengers who were present benefited greatly as a result. A project such as this adds significantly to the overall service that we provide to our passengers and we are hopeful that it can be continued and further developed in the future.”

CnaG are currently still looking for somebody to provide information sessions on the ‘Hebrides’. The successful candidate will receive comprehensive support throughout the project. The hours and days worked are decided by each Information Officer, making this an excellent opportunity for students to earn some money throughout the summer months.
